A business center offering affordable premises and support for new local businesses has been launched in South Derbyshire. The Swadlincote Innovation Center at Bob Wheeler House opened on Friday May 6 and aims to support aspiring entrepreneurs throughout their career journey.
Bob Wheeler House already has convenient business connections. It is located on the George Holmes Business Park just off the A444 in Swadlincote and has modern office suites, a bookable meeting room with boardroom style facilities, free onsite parking and a communal kitchen.
The site was opened by South Derbyshire MP Heather Wheeler, whose late husband Bob Wheeler was a former leader of South Derbyshire District Council and a local resident for nearly 30 years. The premises are named after the councilor who sadly lost his battle with cancer in 2018.

Heather Wheeler said, “It’s a huge honor to be asked to open this fantastic center for business innovation. I am so proud of the way Bob has led the council for seven years, so this is a very special moment for me – thank you South Derbyshire District Council.
The MP carried out groundbreaking duties, officially opening the refurbished building alongside Councilor Kevin Richards, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, Councilor Malcom Gee, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council and other officials from the advice at the heart of the project.
Cllr Richards said: “It was great to see these stunning new facilities first hand and to be part of the launch of this fabulous new asset to our District. Bob Wheeler House will provide invaluable support and a stepping stone for many in South Derbyshire looking to establish themselves in business and is a fitting tribute to Bob who has devoted much of his life to service in the local community.
