Financing Summit Includes Microbiz Perspective

It seemed as if everyone in Small Business-ville, USA, was abuzz with excitement earlier this month when the White House convened a Small Business Financing Summit hosted by Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and SBA Administrator Karen Mills. Only about 100 people were invited to participate in the summit but I’m happy to report that, among so small a number, microbusinesses were included, represented and considered a part of the set of solutions the Obama Administration is looking for.

Among the participants were Mike Beene, General Counsel for the National Association for the Self-Employed; National Small Business Association President Todd McCracken and three of the organization’s trustees; and Connie Evans, President of the Association for Enterprise Opportunity, the national microenterprise development industry trade organization. Specific suggestions from these participants included adjusting attitudes about credit scores, emphasizing the importance of the SBA entrepreneurial development programs, including small business purchases in soon-to-be-implemented credit card reform legislation, increased loan limits for Microloan and more, and more flexible, technical assistance funding. Interested parties can view the entire, full-day proceedings by visiting the Small Business Financing Summit page at the SBA web site.
