Panel Explores Future Biofuel Technologies
Jun 16th, 2008 | By Dawn Rivers Baker | Category: TechnologyA hearing last week before the Subcommittee on Rural and Urban Entrepreneurship of the House Small Business Committee on cutting edge energy technologies that are currently in the pipeline offered a unexpectedly fascinating glimpse into where our energy future may be heading. The need for a next generation has become crystal clear as rising input costs (mostly for corn and soy) are driving research into new sources of raw materials for the youthful biofuels industry. Lots of opportunity here for out-of-the-box thinkers in garage labs, by all accounts. Witnesses urged Congress to keep up those fuel standards, make policy consistent so that investors don’t get spooked, and to have a Nike moment — that is, to make a real commitment to solving the problem and just do it.
