Little Funding Action Expected Till Next Year

Congress finally passed its budget resolution last week, amid much partisan squabbling — of course. In small business land, Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship Chairman John Kerry lauded a $101 million increase in SBA funding, while House Small Business Committee Ranking Member Steve Chabot (R-OH) lamented the fact that Congressional Democrats intend to let the Bush tax cuts expire. Democrats are bragging about getting the budget done in an election year but don’t look for the actual spending bills to happen this year. Indications from various sources are that we’ll see a series of continuing resolutions until January, when a new Administration and a new Congress rolls into town. Presumably, they prefer that plan to trying to face down a series of veto threats by President Bush.
