Economic Worries Greet the New Year

All good things have to come to an end and that includes economic expansions. The manufacturing and construction sectors are suffering, thanks to fallout from the housing market mess. The economy generated a measly 18,000 new jobs in December. The NFIB’s Small Business Optimism Index is still falling. The Conference Board’s combined economic indices show slowing economic growth with increased risk of further economic weakness. Anne Wenzel of Econosystems.com, the Journal’s economic analyst, advises microbusinesses to trim costs where they can and focus on providing real value. “Understanding your customers by putting yourself in their shoes, so to speak, is a really good first step to realigning your sales and production efforts to meet your customers’ needs,” she adds.
